The community takes pride in the quality of Watertown’s schools. The school system offers new and remodeled state-of-the-art public and private educational facilities with effective class sizes and a wealth of opportunities for all students. Watertown-Mayer Public School District 111 serves students from Watertown, Mayer, and the surrounding areas.
The district focuses at maintaining smaller class sizes in order to provide a positive learning environment that fulfills the needs of all students.
The primary school serves pre-school and kindergarten. The elementary school serves grades 1-5, the middle school serves grades 6-8, and the high school serves grades 9-12. Almost 1,700 students attend our schools. The district’s enrollment has increased 3-4 percent per year since 2001-02. A recent study projects that similar growth rates will occur during the next 10-15 years.
The community approved a $51.2 million building referendum in 2005. As a result of this, a number of building projects are being completed in the district that will provide modern education facilities to the students.
The primary school is focused on providing a safe, nurturing environment for preschool and kindergarten students. Kindergarten students may participate in either an all-day, every day fee-based program or a three day per week program.
A new elementary school opened up its doors for the 2007-08 school year. All students participate in art, physical education, music, and computer literacy programs all taught by dedicated staff of professional educators.
At the high school/middle school, renovation and expansion projects have begun that will add classrooms, a 600-seat performance arts center and athletic practice area. This work is scheduled to be completed prior to the 2008-09 school year.
A wide variety of extracurricular activities are offered at the high school/middle school. Drama, speech, music, FFA, Business Professionals of America, Knowledge Bowl, Mock Trial, and athletics are among the opportunities available to help expand students’ school experiences.
The district has also purchased over 80 acres of land on the east side of Highway 25 between Watertown and Mayer with the expectation of building a future school at the site.
Community Education programs - These programs include Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE), adult and youth classes, Kids’ Company school-age childcare, a Club Middle after-school program that provides homework help and recreational opportunities, and a Red Cross swimming program.
Christ Community Lutheran School - They provide children with a challenging and invigorating academic program that prepares them for high school and the future.
Located within the Watertown-Mayer school district is Mayer Lutheran High School, a grades 9-12 school committed to providing a foundation of Christian education.
With approximately 250 students, the school provides a 14:1 student/teacher ratio and strongly encourages academic success and personal development. More than 90% of LHS graduates continue their formal education beyond high school (98% in 2007). LHS students consistently have ACT scores well above the national average.
The school also offers a full range of extracurricular activities, and has frequently sent athletic teams to compete at the state tournament level.
